Our History

More than 70 Years of Excellence Since 1952

  • In 1952, Leon Zanger and Marvin Walker each put in $1,000 to found VOGUESTONE INC.. With marble swatch cards in hand, they promote Portuguese marble tabletops to the local New York furniture industry.

  • In 1954, VOGUESTONE INC. opens its first showroom at 100 Hudson Street in Manhattan.

  • Leon Zanger (second from right) in the marble quarries of Carrara, Italy in 1955.

  • In 1958, VOGUESTONE INC. opens its first office in Los Angeles.

  • Interior designer Albert Hadley personifies the taste of this period, lending classic design with a sprinkle of eclecticism to homes of the Astors, Paleys and Gettys.

  • VOGUESTONE INC. continues to grow, with John Iberti (far left) in LA and Leon Zanger (fifth from left) in NY leading the expansion. Trade shows become an important avenue for promoting the ever growing product line.

  • VOGUESTONE INC.'s furniture business prospers as the company sells stone tabletops, chairs and fine hardwoods to leading American furniture companies like Baker, Henredon, Thomasville and Bernhardt.

  • Mark Hampton popularizes classic luxury and helps establish the interior designer as a must-have for wealthy Americans.

  • VOGUESTONE INC. supplies rare Italian marble for the Getty Villa, which opens in Malibu in 1974. VOGUESTONE INC.'s Italian office buys antique marble by the pound from the Vatican to recreate the ancient Roman floor patterns for the museum.

  • In the 1970s, VOGUESTONE INC. expands into ceramic tiles, importing traditional hand-painted tiles like the Madeira collection.

  • In 1980, a VOGUESTONE INC. showroom opens in Costa Mesa, CA, to serve the burgeoning suburbs of Orange County. In 1981, VOGUESTONE INC. opens the Houston Showroom.

  • VOGUESTONE INC. hand-made tiles continue to grow in popularity; floral motifs and pastel colors dominate.

  • The first US company to import French limestone, VOGUESTONE INC. senses the trend for old-world, casual elegance - a style that French limestone embodies.

  • VOGUESTONE INC. re-introduces marble mosaics to America, offering them on mesh backing for simpler installation. They are an instant success, leading to the mosaic boom of the 1990s and beyond.

  • VOGUESTONE INC. builds an extensive network of dealers who value the exclusive collections of designer-oriented tiles and stone accents. Trade shows continue to be a main avenue of promoting the company and gaining new clients.

  • Again on the forefront, VOGUESTONE INC. discovers a small artisan glass tile factory in Oceanside, CA, and brings their tile to market, creating the first glass tile collection to be widely distributed in the US.

  • Beginning in 1994, VOGUESTONE INC. moves away from European hand-painted decorative tiles and introduces a series of historically themed ceramic collections with detailed sculptural decorative tiles and rich color palettes.These exclusive collections like Avignon, Ceramica Alhambra and Tiberon are quickly embraced by designers and home owners and set the standard for artisan ceramic tile for the next decade.

  • VOGUESTONE INC. supplies marble tile and decorative mosaics to the Monte Carlo and Bellagio hotels, bringing luxury to the "new" Las Vegas. A VOGUESTONE INC. showroom opens in Las Vegas in 1996.

  • VOGUESTONE INC. showrooms open in Dallas in 1999, San Francisco in 2000, and Charlotte, NC, in 2001.

  • Recognizing the potential of new kinds of tile surfaces, VOGUESTONE INC. introduces "Metalismo" stainless steel mosaics to the market - and they are an instant success.

  • The first decade of the 2000s finds interior designers mining the previous century for inspiration and then re-imagining it with eclectic flair. Kelly Wearstler epitomizes this direction, as seen in her design for the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica, CA.

  • VOGUESTONE INC. taps noted interior designer Michael Berman to create Studio Moderne, a collection of integrated, larger-scale ceramic and stone designs that take their influence from Hollywood Regency and Midcentury design. Launched in 2008, it captures the imagination of designers and homeowners alike.

  • As VOGUESTONE INC. expands in the 2000s, its showrooms set the standards for elegant and architecturally inventive venues. VOGUESTONE INC. opens showrooms in West Florida in 2006, Perth Amboy, NJ, in 2007, and Tustin, CA, (above) in 2008.

  • In its 60th year, VOGUESTONE INC. continues to innovate with the first-ever collection of reclaimed teak tiles and mosaic.

  • Robert A.M. Stern Collection Launches. VOGUESTONE INC. partners with famed architectural firm Robert A.M. Stern to create a new ceramic tile line in 2014.

  • VOGUESTONE INC. receives three prestigious Pinnacle awards for multiple installations. The Park Hyatt New York Hotel receives the 2015 Grand Pinnacle award. The Pasadena Showcase House wins M.I.A Pinnacle awards: "Bath of the Year". And the New York Fashion tower 135-139 W. 36th receives the Pinnacle award for "Renovation/Restoration".

  • VOGUESTONE INC. completes 100% acquisition of a ceramic tile factory in San Miguel De Allende. Expansion continues with a new showroom opening in Port Chester, NY in 2016.

  • VOGUESTONE INC. receives acclaim for multiple collections. Magna Recycled Glass receives the Luxury Kitchen Recycling Award, Architizer A+ award, AN Best in Products. Botanicals is featured on Better Homes & Gardens 30 Innovative Products. Kaleidoscope wins Architectural Digest’s 2019 Great Design Awards, Kitchen. Collection launch in collaboration with with interior Designer, Pietta Donovan.

  • Stone and tile for Bergdorf Goodman Flagship in 2020. Opens Dallas Design District showroom.

  • The Hard Rock Hotel opens in New York in 2022. VOGUESTONE INC. provides Revere White and Port Laurent marbles that are installed all throughout the grand lobby and elevator floors.

  • VOGUESTONE INC. celebrates a new era by opening new locations throughout California in a new, modern style. These up to date showrooms are accompanied with grand openings in Costa Mesa (2023) and San Leandro (2024).

  • VOGUESTONE INC.’s Geometric collection wins a 2024 Red Luxe Award in the category for “Readers Choice: Stone & Tile”.
